I have bedbugs. its confirmed. This is literally my nightmare. I have had bed bugs on my radar for at least 10 years. I always look when we travel. I inspect the beds a few times a month. I am that paranoid about this. Of course it happened to me.
I was praying the two we found was it. We looked around the beds and under mattresses and found nothing. Well we looked again, this time under the box spring and saw about 10. It was horrible. We found all stages - eggs, some small ones, 4-5 bigger bugs and a small but gross spot by the mattress tag that was all spotted and stained.
What makes this grosser and more upsetting is that this was in my 7 year old's room. We found one bug in our room, even looking under the box spring. I am thinking a bug hitched a ride from school or from a sleep over. It was horrifying. I gathered up everything I could see with duct tape and ran it over the whole spring. I got everything I saw but I know there are tons more.
We are having a company come out early next week. They use chemicals and will treat 3 times about 10 days apart and have a 6 month guarantee. Is this good? I spoke with other companies in the area and one sprayed once which is know is not a good play and the other came out 3 times but had a three month guarantee. The longer guarantee eases my stress just that little bit more.
I have two small children and don't want to mess around. We are buying mattress encasements (any recommendations would be appreciated!!!), the traps for the legs of the bed and are going to spend the weekend cleaning. Though my son is still in a toddler bed and it has one of those vinyl crib mattresses. Should I encase that as well? or maybe just wrap in plastic?
I am so stressed and nauseous about this. I can't even talk about it without crying. I am so over whelmed I don't even know where to start.
Weird question - I bought ziplock bags for clothes and am going dry the clothes on high heat and bag them, then put those bags in a white trash bag, then into a bin. BUT - how do I get the clothes from the washer to the bags. I know that sounds dumb. But can I use a plastic laundry basket? I was going to use one (its white) inspect it, wash it down with Clorox wipes and have that be the 'clean' transport. I don't have a laundry room just a washer/dryer in the basement so I can't set up shop down there. Or is it better to bag it there by the dryer?
I'm going to touch base with the exterminator with my questions but want all the info I can get. Like how do I clean toys that can't be washed and dried? Like my daughter's American Girl dolls, toys that use batteries, things like that. they bring toys and items in their beds all the time. Can I use a bleach dilution to wipe and clean everything or will that not affect the bugs.
Is there anything I can put in my car? I haven't seen anything there but I'm paranoid. I'm going to clean it out, take out the booster seats, wipe them down and wash the covers. What about things like my wallet and purse? If I throw them in a pillow case and then in the dryer will that be good enough?
Part of my plan involves coming home - We have a over the door coat rack. I am going to take it down, clean it (again - bleach??), clean the door, and then dry everything (coats, backpacks, lunch boxes) before hanging them back up. Then I figure when everyone gets home we can hang them up right away. cause right now they get strewn about the living room. We haven't seen anything in there but there are nights when my daughter crawls into bed with us and my husband moves to the couch, usually bringing a blanket and pillow. So while I haven't seen them there I'm treating the living room like its infested.
I am trying to hold it together and cleaning (Which I HATE to do) is going to be the one thing I can control right now. We haven't told our children and I'm not planning on it. We told them we are going to be cleaning the whole house this weekend while they play and binge on tv (best parent ever!) I don't want them to know. They are little and have no filter so I can see them saying "we have bedbugs" to everyone they meet. I don't want then to be anxious about being in their beds and
Any tips, hints and tricks would be super appreciated. I'm trying to stay positive but its so hard. This site has been a life saver these past few days.
